Its a Wrap: GOALs Cohort 2

The past nine months have been absolutely crazy! From late night lesson planning,  to late night door dashing, GOALs has had it all. This is a space for me to reflect and share my experience over the last nine months.

Fall Immersion

Our year began with planning our trip to the World food prize. During class, we learned how to plan basic lessons, plan our travel, communicate with our cross institutional partners, and how to professionally network. Although I had Esperance networking in a professional setting, I have been able to see the impact refining these skills has had on my networking and professional development.

When we attended the world food prize, I became familiar with my cohort, which were some of the coolest people I have had the honor of working with. The first night I got to really know my cohort was night one of the World Food Prize. the majority of our cohort went out into the streets of Des Moines in search of ice cream, which turned out to be a bust. Our trip quickly turned into an impromptu photo session and crazy discussions about what could possibly go wrong during our Esperance.

Although nothing bad did happen, and were way to nervous about "messing things up" we did learn a lot about what our spring immersion would look like, and how to incorporate new learning tools into our lessons for our spring immersion.

Spring Immersion

Spring semester was extremely stressful for me. It was difficult at times to understand which assignments were due, and where to find the assignment sheets in mighty networks or google drive. The late nights completing assignments, being on the verge of tears my spring immersion would be taken away because of forgotten or unnoticed assignments all paid off.

Our spring immersion took place in San Louis Obispo, CA.
This picture was taken at the airport four hours prior to our flight. We were worried about road conditions and TSA traffic. This is where I probably made the largest mistake of, OVERTHINKING MY LESSONS!!!! I got to looking at my lesson plans and began to dislike everything about them, so I spent the extra time redoing every lesson. But, it all worked out any my lessons went very well.

While we were teaching, we did many fun things, like go to the beach, and try some of the local favorite things to do. Makenna (my travel partner) and myself enjoyed much of the agriculture, and took in the costal like.

The highlight of this trip was my students. Although we are from two very deferent parts of the country, we found interest in each others "way of life". its hard to believe that you can connect with students in such a short amount of time. This experience as a whole was well worth the effort.
